[Full Guide] How to Flash Custom ROMs on OnePlus One

Few days one of our readers contacts us ask a question “How to Flash ROMs on OnePlus One“. So today here in this guide I will show you how to flash any custom ROMs, Oxygen OS, CM12 or any other ROM on your oneplus one. The goal of this guide is to cover everything from start to finish. There are plenty of Custom ROMS are available for the phone, but most of the new users don’t know how to install them and what steps to follow for the successful installation. To get started all, you need a rooted phone with Custom recovery like TWRP recovery. The process is very simple and all you need an ROM file with Google flash to install the ROM on your phone. In this tutorial, I will show all the steps with the images to complete the flashing process.

Note: I am not responsible if you fail to follow instructions and brick your device. Don’t attempt to do this if you tend to skip lines or start at step 4 instead of step 1.

Flashing a custom ROM on Oneplus

(For this guide I’ll be using Exodus Vanir ROM as an example but this will work for almost every ROM out there unless specified otherwise in the ROM’s installing instructions.)

Step 1. As we mention above to get started you need a rooted phone with TWRP recovery, Check out our guide here how to root and install recovery

Step 2. Now the next step is to download the Custom ROM and Google apps package zip file on your phone. (Remember that when you flash a rom you will have to also flash a Gapps package.)

Step 3. Here are the list of some of the best Custom ROMs for Oneplus, download any one of them on your phone. (Don’t extract the zip folder)

Step 4. Download the Android Google Apps package from here on your oneplus. (Official ROMs like CM11S, COS12 and OxygenOS come with GApps pre-installed and you don’t have to flash a GApps package in that case.)

Step 5. Once both the files are downloaded on your phone. Boot your phone into TWRP Recovery Mode. To do this Turn off your phone and Turn on the phone while holding Power and Volume Down buttons.

Step 6. From the TWRP recovery main menu, Go to Wipe and select Advanced Wipe.

Step 7. Now from the next screen, select Dalvik Cache, System, Data and Cache and Swipe to wipe. (Be very careful that you do not select Internal Storage)

Step 8. Now go back to main menu of recovery and go to Install and find the zip files you downloaded.

Step 9. From here, Select the ROM.zip file that you downloaded on step 3, after that select Add more zips option and select GApps.zip > Swipe to flash.

Step 10. Wait for the flash to finish and press Wipe Cache & Dalvik.

Step 11. Press Back and press Reboot System.

First boot will take some time, wait for 10 minutes to install the updates. Now your phone is running on the Custom ROM.
