Nexus 5 is the first smartphone which is powered with the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat version and comes with lots of new feature like Google New launcher and Smart caller ID. If you recently bought the new nexus 5 phone and looking for the way to add the battery status icon in your phone status bar. By default you won’t found any setting on the Android 4.4 to show the battery percentage status. XDA Forum Member kroegerama created an application that works with Android 4.4 KitKat, which allows you to enable the battery percentage bar without applying any modification or root.
You can enable this hidden feature on the Nexus 5 with a single click and without rooting your phone. All you have to install one small application on your device and have to enable the “Enable Battery Percent” setting from the app. Llets take a look how this application works on the Nexus 5 Android 4.4.

Simply install the app Percent_Enabler.apk on your phone and install the same on your device. Once the application is installed, run the application and hit “Enable,” and then reboot. Now you will see the new white color battery status icon on your phone. Here is what your battery will look like with the percentage enabled.
One his we didn’t like about the icon is that the text color is the same color as the battery icon, so you won’t be able to see the percentage unless your device battery is 50%. Fro more info see the screen shot below:-
Some Info about the application:-
Do I need a rooted device?
No, should work on any 4.4+ deviceCan you change the text-color?
Sorry, this is impossible with a simple app like this one, because the color is hard-coded in SystemUI.apk. You need to decompile that apk, edit one line of source code and then recompile it. Actually, I don’t plan to do this, because I don’t like to change system-apps. Also, the OTA-Updates from google would fail after that and it would require root. After removing the app the percentage is still there.
That’s because the app changes a system setting. The app does NOT display the battery itself!I uninstalled the App. Now I want to disable the percent display.
Ok, just install the App again, uncheck the setting and uninstall it.
