This guide is only for the Oneplus 6T phone users and don’t apply this method to any other Oneplus phone. To root any phone first you have to unlock the bootloader of the phone, then you have to install the TWRP recovery and flash the magisk manager to get the root access. So here we will first unlock the bootloader of Oneplus 6T and Install TWRP recovery and then Root Oneplus 6T.

Pre-Requirements to Root OnePlus 6T
1. Install the ADB and USB Driver on your Windows PC from here.
2. Enable USB debugging on your Android device. To do this go to your Settings -> About Phone -> Now Tap on the Build Number 7-8 Times until you see a toast message “Developer option enabled”.
Now go back to settings -> Additional Settings -> Developer Options -> Enable the OEM Unlock by going to Settings -> Developer Option and Enable OEM Unlock and USB Debugging. See the screenshot below.
3. Install Android USB drivers, tutorial: Download USB Drivers For Windows.
4. Download the Platform Tools Fastboot folder here. Unzip the folder on your Windows C Drive. (C:\platform-tools). And you will see the PlatForm folder on your Windows C Drive.
Download File To Root OnePlus 6T
1. To successfully root the phone we need to download the latest version of Magisk manager on our device. Here is the link for the same. Download Magisk manager file here and save them in your phone’s internal memory.
2. Download these two TWRP recovery files and place both of them on your computer and place the zip file on your phone’s internal storage
How to Unlock Bootloader of Oneplus 6T
1) Enable USB debugging and OEM unlock. Go to Settings > About Phone>Tap Build number 7 times. Go to Settings > Developer’s Options > Enable USB debugging and also in Settings > Developer’s Options, Enable OEM unlock, type in your PIN/Pattern/Pass code.
2. Open the Platform-tools folder on your desktop that you downloaded from the above.
3. Now press and hold ‘shift’ key and right-clicked anywhere in the folder and select ‘Open command window here.’
4. Boot your OnePlus 6T into Bootloader/Fastboot mode (POWER + VOLUME UP).
5. Once the phone in fastboot mode. Connect it to the Computer with the USB cable.
6. Run this code in the command prompt window to ensure fastboot is working.

If it returns with your serial number you can continue with the process, if not you need to ensure your drivers are correctly setup.
7. To unlock your OnePlus 6T, run this code:
fastboot oem unlock
8. This will begin the unlock process on your OnePlus 6t and will come up with a new screen on your device. Choose Yes and it will reboot automatically.
That’s it now the bootloader of your OnePlus 6T is unlocked. Now the next process is Install TWRP and Root Oneplus 6T.
How to Install TWRP on Oneplus 6T
1. Make sure that you download the TWRP img and TWRP zip file from the above mention links (Download Section)
Rename the .img file to recovery.img (make sure to rename it recovery.img and not recovery.img.img). And save this file in the Platform Tools Folder.
Rename the .zip file to recovery.zip (make sure to rename it recovery.zip and not recovery.zip.zip)
2. Now boot your phone in fastboot mode. To do this hold down the Volume UP + Power button together.
3. Now press and hold ‘shift’ key and right-clicked anywhere in the folder and select ‘Open command window here.’
4. Connect the Oneplus 6T to the PC with USB cable.
5. Now run the following command to boot your phone in TWRP.
fastboot boot recovery.img
6. Now the phone will boot int he TWRP. Go to install and Flash the TWRP zip file on your phone. The same file that you saved on your phone.
7. Now the TWRP is installed on your phone. Reboot System.
NOTE: TWRP will get removed after every update on the device, you will have to flash each time.
How to Root Oneplus 6T
1. Now the TWRP is installed on your phone. Save the magisk manager zip file on your phone from the download section.
2. Now boot your phone in TWRP mode. To do this sitch off your phone and Hold down the Volume UP + Power button together.
3. Once your phone in TWRP mode.
Tap on the install button from recovery to root the phone.
5. Now from the next page choose the magisk zip file.
6. Now to flash the file, “Swipe to Confirm Flash”
7. Once the Zip file is successfully installed on your phone. Reboot System.
8. Now your phone will reboot and you will the see the Magisk app on your phone. That means your Oneplus 6T phone is rooted successfully.
