MIUI Evolution: A Complete History (MIUI 1 to MIUI 14)

Xiaomi is renowned for its operating system, known as MIUI. Now, MIUI has evolved into HyperOS. From 2010 to 2024 Xiaomi’s operation system MIUI is based on the Android Open Source Project. Today, in this blog post, we will look at how MIUI has evolved over time (MIUI Evolution), from its early stages to its latest version, MIUI 14.

These Days Xiaomi MIUI comes in different variants for different regions like China, Global, Europe, India, Indonesia etc. In the past few years, MIUI has undergone many changes, and it has been a long time from MIUI 1 to MIUI 14.

1. MIUI 1 and MIUI 2

MIUI V1 (16 August 2010) and MIUI V2 (October 29, 2010) both are based on Android 2.1

MIUI V3 is Based on Android 2.3.6, and launched on March 25, 2011.

MIUI 4 – This update is based on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and launched on January 19, 2012.

MIUI V5 (March 1, 2013) In this update Xiaomi removed Google Play Store from the Chinese variant of MIUI. Based on Android 4.1 Jellybean

MIUI 6 (August 16, 2014) brings a minimalist design with flat icons and a variety of new wallpapers based on Android 5.0 (Lollipop).

MIUI 12 (April 27, 2020) was released with a new design and carried the slogan “Touch the imagination, feel the reality”. MIUI 12 is based on Android 11.

MIUI 13 (December 28, 2021) is based on Android 12, presenting several new features, both in design and security aspects.

MIUI 14 (December 11, 2022), This new design includes super icons, super folders, and widgets on the home screen.

That concludes the history of MIUI, spanning from version 1 to version 14. Over the years, there have been numerous changes, improvements, and new features introduced to ensure that MIUI users have a comfortable daily experience.

Personally, I first used MIUI on version 5 with the Mi 3 device.
